Lawrence White was born in Branscombe on 30th November 1896, the son of John and Rosetta White of Marine Cottage, Branscombe.
In the Absent Voters’ List for Spring 1919, Lawrence, who then gave his address as 5 Belmont Terrace, Beer (the same as Melville, Robert and Peter), was shown as being a Lance Corporal in the 19th Corps Cyclist Battalion.
His army service record has not survived, and no medal index card has been found, so it is not possible to provide further details of his war service. We do however know that he also served in the army in the Second World War. He joined the Worcestershire Regiment, but was later attached to the Nigeria Regiment, and died in Nigeria on 11th June 1943.
