Frederick Pulman was born in Honiton on 8th March 1883, but in the Absent Voters’ List for 1919 he gave his home address as 8 Highfield Terrace, Beer.
He enlisted in the Royal Navy on 25th January 1906 at Plymouth (HMS Vivid), and joined HMS Suffolk, a Monmouth-class cruiser, on 10th April 1906 as a Stoker 2nd Class.
After serving on several other ships Frederick joined HMS Assistance on 2nd February 1914, and remained for most of the war. Assistance was a fleet repair ship which was based at Scapa Flow and Cromarty, supporting the ships of the Grand Fleet.
Frederick remained in the Royal Navy after the war, and eventually left on 24th January 1926. His last two and a half years of service were spent on HMS Hood.
Frederick died in 1956.
